App Privacy Policy

Information for users of the outdoor IQ iOS app under Art. 13/14 GDPR

No tracking. No account. No ads. The app stores your settings exclusively locally on your iPhone. There is no account, no server database, no analytics and no advertising trackers.
This privacy policy applies to the outdoor IQ iOS app on the Apple App Store. For the outdooriq.de website, see the separate website privacy policy (German only).

1. Controller

Controller in the sense of the GDPR is:
Manuel Bucher
Fürnsaler Steig 23
72175 Dornhan
Germany
Phone: +49 7455 335589
Email: info@outdooriq.de
VAT ID: DE309264370

2. Local storage on your device

The app stores your settings exclusively on your device via the platform-native Capacitor Preferences (iOS: UserDefaults, Android: SharedPreferences). This includes:

This data never leaves your device. There is no transfer to our servers or any third party. You can delete it at any time by uninstalling the app.

Legal basis: § 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (technically required for the function).

3. Location request

When you use the location button or launch the app for the first time, iOS asks you to grant permission to determine your approximate position. The app uses:

Location data is used exclusively for the weather lookup and address display (see sections 4 and 5). We do not store or transfer your geo-coordinates to our own server.

You can revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings under "Privacy & Security → Location Services → outdoor IQ". You can also use the app without sharing your location by entering a place name manually.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract).

4. Weather data

Depending on your location, the app uses one of two weather services. Sunrise and sunset times are computed locally on your device (NOAA algorithm) — no data transmission for those.

Locations in Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands: Bright Sky / German Weather Service

All other locations: WeatherAPI.com via outdooriq.de proxy

For all other countries (including Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein – for better accuracy in mountain regions), the app calls a proxy endpoint on our server outdooriq.de, which in turn forwards a request to WeatherAPI.com. Reason: this keeps the API key server-side instead of exposed in the app code.

Legal basis for both weather services: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract — without weather data the app cannot fulfill its purpose).

5. Address search – Photon (Komoot)

For address autocomplete and reverse geocoding (when using GPS), the app uses the geocoding service Photon by Komoot GmbH:

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the contract).

6. What the app does NOT do

For transparency: the app explicitly contains none of the following:

7. Your rights as a data subject

Under the GDPR, you have, among others, the right to:

Since we don't store any personal data on our servers, you can effectively delete your data at any time by uninstalling the app or resetting the settings within the app. For any inquiries, please contact us at info@outdooriq.de.

8. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority about our processing of your personal data. The authority responsible for us is:
